The Art of Forgiveness

When we find ourselves in a type of darkness, whether illness or a personal struggle, we don’t see things clearly. Because we are in this stage of darkness (or the unknown), we make many mistakes. It is similar to carving a new self. As long as we learn from our mistakes, we can move forward at one point.

In life, many of us go through a roller coaster because life isn’t easy. That’s the ugly truth. One day things can be perfect, and then another day they’re not. I’ve had my share of unknowns, but the most trying one has been in the last year.

What I have learned from these trials is that not many people stick around. Also, not too many people are forgiving. When people feel offended or as if you have wronged them in some way, they hang onto that emotion. Even if they’re right, what I find baffling, is the lack of forgiveness in others.

Life isn’t a straight line. No one is perfect. Of course, this doesn’t mean just to let in every toxic person out there, but we should learn to be a bit more forgiving because we don’t know what people are going through in their life.

Further, once the storm passes, we can turn around and think, “Yikes! I could have done that better.” But in that specific moment, we didn’t — end of the matter. We can offer an apology and show that we are different.

It’s up to each individual whether to grant us a second chance or not. And in spite of their decision, we still need to forgive ourselves and have a fresh start–to me, this is truly the art of forgiveness, wishing and allowing people to have a second chance to a fresh start.

“But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” Luke 7:47
