Hi, welcome to Ana's blog. Ana is a Xennial, born and raised in California. She is interested in creative writing, news, sports, and entertainment. A few fun facts: Ana is a fan of soccer (football). Her favorite player is Cristiano Ronaldo, and her favorite teams are Real Madrid and Liverpool. She's learning French. She speaks fluently both English and Spanish. And the first book she read as a child was the Bible in Spanish. Lastly, she's writing her first book, and she hopes to publish it soon.     I’m going to make a blog post with this too!

    • My first foray into writing was a poem I wrote when I was 15. I still have it
    • English was my favorite class
    • I dedicated my first novel to my High School and College English teachers. One told me I could write, the other taught me how
    • My first book was “I Wish That I had Duck Feet”
    • My second book was “Rin Tin Tin”
    • I loved the Raggedy Ann and Andy books, Pippi Longstocking, Encyclopedia Brown, the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew
    • In elementary school, I was the kid reading biographies of great Americans while my buddies built rockets in Dad’s basement 
    • I switched to Science Fiction in Junior High and High School. My favorite Sci-Fi writers were Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, and Ray Bradbury. Jack Chalker, Jerry Pournelle, Larry Niven, Poul Anderson, and Richard Matheson are other favorites
    • I served aboard the USS Tripoli with Jerry Pournelle’s son
    • All of this gave me a well-rounded foundation for the writer I wanted to be
    • It took years, but I finally wrote and self-published my novel, Honey Ko
    • I have a tendency to be wordy. Writing poetry forces me to write tight, to say in few words what I might say in many sentences
    • Writing poetry is relaxing. I don’t write poetry as therapy although I often write it in response to things that anger me or make me happy
    • I don’t read many genres. I’m mainly a straight up fiction reader. Literary fiction is my choice for the message, and the fine writing, that accompanies the story
    • I don’t like easy vulgarity in stories. You won’t find foul language in my writing
    • A well-done sex scene leaves the reader’s imagination working overtime. I don’t need to describe every action for her
    • I like to write before the sun comes up
    • I like to position my desk so it looks out over my lawn. Nature and my neighborhood’s daily activities inspire me. The sound of children screaming, laughing, and squealing while playing is music to my ears. All the neighborhood noises are conducive to a good writing atmosphere
    • I don’t suffer writer’s block
    • If I am stuck for something to write, I write a letter to myself. I let the words flow free, like free verse, writing anything that pops in to my mind. Something almost always comes out that triggers a desire to follow up with more in-depth writing
    • In general, I don’t listen to music when writing. However, I will play music if I’m writing a passage and want to get into a particular mood
    • If the writer doesn’t cry, the reader won’t cry
    • I write a lot about Susanna, my Spanish girlfriend while I was stationed in Spain with the Navy. She died of pneumonia. Her death left me devastated. I was 21. She was 25
    • Susanna is my muse
    • I love writing poetry about nature. If I can get a reader to comment saying she was right there with my poetry or description, then I feel validated as a poet
    • I’m afraid to submit my poetry for publication because I don’t feel it’s good enough
    • That goes for my writing too
    • The greatest feeling for me as a writer is when I get “in the zone,” that intense period of concentration when the words flow faster than I can write, with sentences bumping into each other in my mind while they wait impatiently to leap from my pen onto paper. Time has no meaning in the zone.
    • My impatience often leads me to post writing before it’s ready. I often edit a published post several times.
    • Sometimes, I will leave a poem or story unfinished if I’m not pleased with it or find I’m hurrying it. A break refreshes me and lets me write with “new eyes” so to speak.
    • I would leave my job in a heartbeat if I thought I could support myself through writing.
    • Neither of my parents lived to see me write.
    • Dad was a reader.
    • Mom and I used to do the Sunday crossword puzzle together.
    • Jeopardy was a fun evening in my family.
    • Scrabble too.

    1. Wow, this is incredible. Thank you for sharing such wonderful insights and experiences. I just got your movel, and it’s on my bucket list of reading. I have the tendency of living books unread because I move from curiosity to the next. It’s terrible! . But I definitely want to stay focused on finishing books & giving them my quality time. I think I’d like to have an informal interview with you about your writing and all these lovely topics. It’s a vlog I want to start to learn from other writers. Let me know if you’re interested! 😊 🌹

    2. Wow, this is amazing and extensive. I’m going through my messages. I think they’re different from the comment section. Some of them are from a few years ago. Sadly, I missed many of them. Anyway, I hope you have submitted your poetry by now. If not, please do so. You are much, much better than I am. But I am going to try and write more of it. I too can be impatient, btw. I’d reply with more, but I think those were the most important ones that I wanted to mention. P.s. Forgive me, I hope it’s not too forward, but I think Susanna would love it if you embraced your poetry abilities and show them to the world. 🙂

  2. * I love to write poetry, fiction, short plays and skits
    * I can get my inspiration for writing through past or present life situations, music nature or whatever pops into my spirit.
    * And my favorite is to write with a Twist I don’t like typical I love different
    I enjoyed reading your post and it just made me take a moment to sit here and think and reflect in fact I need to get some riding in now on the short story I’m doing entitled STARTING OVER

    1. I’m glad! Thank you. I don’t consider myself a poet, but I do like to write poetry. And it’s almost about anything or anyone. And yeah, get to it. Just as I should finish my story too. lol 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  5. I only just got on wordpress. This is my first blog I found. I love this post. What is my Creative process is writing stories, they start our as short stories and end up as novels. Got 3 thus far. I’m working on my 4th. I also write poetry. I not sure what else to say you can check out our blog.
