Let People Evolve: Hailey Bieber vs Selena Gomez

I wanted to touch on the Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez drama. I don’t disdain many celebrities, but I don’t necessarily care about their lives. However, when I notice something a bit unfair, I do look into it.

Most people don’t like change. They don’t change, and they don’t let others change. My message here is to LET people evolve. I notice it in family and friends. Once people title you with something, like “the rebel” or “the troublemaker,” that’s it. Like the kids used to say when playing freeze tag, “You’re it.”

Justin Bieber used to be a destructive young man. He was into drugs and alcohol, a womanizer, prideful and arrogant. He was in an on-and-off relationship with Selena Gomez, who we now know was wild herself. Justin and Selena met when they were still teenagers but didn’t date until they were a bit older. Around that time, Justin also met Hailey Bieber. Hailey’s dad, Stephen Baldwin, dragged her once at the butt crack of dawn to meet Justin Bieber. With amusement, Justin recalls that Hailey was half asleep. All the girls were excited and screaming for him, but not Hailey. Justin now teases that maybe it was all a setup by her dad. And perhaps it was; we’ll never know.

In 2018, rumors were that Justin asked Selena to marry him, but she said no. A month later, he married Hailey. Eventually, Justin is now a responsible young man compared to the car wreck he was in earlier in his career. He was in the tabloids constantly. Today, he is in the tabloids because of the Hailey and Selena issue. And they have painted Selena as the “good guy” and Hailey as the “mean girl.”

Selen’s fans are relentlessly obsessed with her old relationship, Justin Bieber. It’s been five years, and they still go and mock Hailey wherever they can, and the tabloids happily embraced this narrative because people love it. Selena’s fans don’t understand that Justin and Selena were in a toxic relationship. That stuff is only cute in lame, cheesy teen dramas. In real life, it affects a person psychologically, emotionally, physically, and even spiritually.  Differently, five years into his marriage with Hailey, Justin no longer struggles with drugs or alcohol; he is spiritual. He’s evolved, and he is better today, and it’s probably due to Haiely’s positive influence on him. That speaks volumes about her.

Also, Selena isn’t perfect. In 2017, Selena needed a kidney transplant, and her friend Francia Raísa donated one of her kidneys to Gomez. The doctors called Selena first to tell her that Francia was compatible with her so that they could proceed with the surgery. Talk about breaking a patient’s confidentiality. But that’s how much power Selena has due to her fame. If you take the time to hear Francia’s experience, she recalls how painful her recovery was and that it was a “humbling experience.” That surgery wasn’t easy, and she now has a permanent scar.

Guess what Selena did after she was good to go? After her doctor deliberately prohibited her from drinking alcohol, she did it anyway. Her fans caught her on some social media post. Francia found out and told her off because she put her life on the line for Selena. Selena and Francia stopped being friends after that. Supposedly, they are on talking terms again. But what type of person do you have to be to de-friend a person who gave you their kidney for you to live? I’m not saying Selena is a bad person, but that does not show a perfect person as her fans try to paint her–or even the tabloids.

I’ll go back to my first point about change. Because there are crazy obsessed Selena fans out there, the tabloids and everywhere on social media keep bringing up Justin’s past. They also mock Hailey as the second choice and the mean girl. Why? Because people don’t want Justin to move on. They want him broken down and after Selena. This feeds people; in the same way, some people want to see you broken down. Whether people mean good or not, they show up for the bad news. They cannot press delete on that label they had about you, “the rebel,” or fill in the blank.

Many of us may not have tabloids writing about us or keeping tabs on everything we do, but we do have those people (relatives and “friends”) keeping tabs on us and hoping we break down one day. Because they don’t seek change and refuse to evolve, they don’t want you to change either. But as always, keep going. Keep moving.
